Did my first lap job today. Nothing realy outstanding, just the stock HSF that came with my celley 700. Still need to get a real HSF and some AS2 (I used Radio Shack grease on this).

Before (Case/CPU):
Idle: 33C/30C
Stressed: 40C/43C

After (Case/CPU):
Idle: 32C/29C
Stressed: 38C/40C

Temps as reported by MBM5 on my Abit SE6. Would have liked to get sub 40C before I started to O/C, but I don't think that that's too bad using stock.

Spike i did the exact same thing last night to my stock intel HSF for my P!!!800. I lapped it with 240, then 600 then 800 then finished with 1200.

Temps went from 54C to 51C. Using the shacks compound of course. Not bad for 1/2 hr of work.

btw, i had a he|| of a time getting the intel HSF off, what was your removal like?

Removal was quite easy for me. Remove my mem stick and one drive cable and used a small screwdriver in the clips extra slot. Came right off :)

BTW, what do you think of a Vantec 62540D HSF for a celly 700??

I am sure OpenFriday will rant and rave about Vantec's HSF's.... I am not sure of the one you refer to is the same as the one I am thinking of (looks like an FOP32) but from what I hear (the one that looks like an FOP32) performs generally on par with the FOP32 (you could do better). I am not going to spend any more cash on my computer now that cycling season is here but the next purchases I am going to make are: 1. 256 MB CAS2 PC133 or some sort, and 2. an Alpha PEP66 which will be modded with a Sunon 43 CFM 80 MM fan and adapter. There are better HSF units out there but from what I can tell, they're priced for a Sultan, not a college student with 3 other expensive hobbies (bicycle racing, nordic skiing and snowboarding). Anyway

Very nice job.

The Intel FCPGA heatsinks of late are actually not too bad. Another nice improvement can be achieved by simply bolting a 60mm fan to it to replace the stock fan. That will give you at least another 4C.

Oh yeah im ranting and raving about the Vantec, it is nearly identical to the FOP38 (i.e. pretty much same temps) Only difference i think is easier clipping system. As i had problems with the intel HSF i like heatsinks with easy clipping system.
