I don't think that would be a good idea. It you should want the CPU core to have DIRECT contact with the block for best thermal transfer
no.. i mean the the surface.. not the base.. lol

probably as long as its cool cause the paint will hold in heat it will act as a thermal layer i mean so in this case it will either hold heat in or out could help in some situations like passsive heating if case temp is higher than cpu(i dont think this is commonm but it is extreamly possible)
cause i remem seeing someone doing it before...
can't remember..
anyone else have any comments?

go for it.
I painted my block with black rustoleum and temps didn't budge. I even clear coated it afterwards. :)

I have a Be Cooling jagged edge (copper) and the new powder coated black jagged edge blocks for my chipset and vid card.
I painted the copper jagged edge just fine with good ol rustoleium(sp) and everythinh is hunky dory. just make sure to keep the bottom nice and clean.
BTW Be Cooling did offer to swap my Jagged Edge for a Black powder coated jagged edge for $5.00, but the week turnaround was too long for impatient me.
Black blocks on the silver soltek mo-board, and triplex vid card looks cool. I may finially succumb to the asthetic case modding syndrome, and install pretty windows to go with my pretty boards to I don't need to keep removing the side panel.
aww jeeze, I feel an obsession coming on.....
seeya.
Painting your block should have no effect on temps, your waterblock is not aircooled from the outside after all, it's the water running inside that's removing the heat. Just don't paint the water paths inside the block, and you'll be fine.....
And don't mess up the waterblock to cpu contact, this spot must remain paint free (I'm sure you know that, just making sure).
