Well, I tried posting this before, but my firewall was acting screwy and forced me to continually log in, but ANYWAY, I'm building a little something for my brother who lives in japan. He'll be primarily using this machine for gaming.

I got him some arctic silver 3 as well, cuz those thermal pads that come on the retail heatsinks are just sad :D

Rumor has it that a single stick of memory overclocks better than 2.

It all looks good, however, make sure that the 80gb hard drive is a western digital "special edition" drive with 8mb of cache as they are extremely fast drives! Also, it may be worth the extra money for a sound blaster audigy over the live.

Get a hard drive cooler for that 80 gig. THEY GET DAMN HOT!! (mine needs to be RMA'd only after 4 months of use. (and yes I have a cooler on it)

Is it going to be overclocked?

Better heatsink.
1 stick of memory.
You might as well get a kt266a motherboard if you're getting a 2000+, unless you plan on unlocking the cpu, or unless you only want it because it has USB 2.0 or some other such new feature. A 1600+ would be better in a kt333 motherboard becuase you will be able to overclock and actually use the 1/5 divisor in the kt333 chipset, even without unlocking the cpu.

That's odd..I've been running four of the spec ed. WD drives for close to six months now without any of them complaining.

Touch them, how HOT are they? Do you fold or SETI? do you leave them on 24/7?

I'm fairly certain that my brother doesn't *want* to overclock it, but I'm trying to leave the option open to him to try it out. I'll definitely have to add a hard drive cooler, cuz I know he's complaining about his current 40 gb hard drives running too hot.

Arkaine: I'll look into a new mobo, but I really liked the Epox 8k5a2 cuz it had onboard lan and usb 2.0 (both of which he wanted). Are you saying that the kt333 is actually worse for overclocking that a kt266a?
