Question about Lap top

Ok i've got this lap top with windows xp on it... its my friends and its not accepting her password... anyways what i wanna do is format it then reinstall windows on it, but it's only got a cd-rom... no floppy..so i can format with a win98 cd...ubt after that it'll give me "unknown system disk, please remove then press any key"... is there a way to install windows on it ?... the lap top is a Compac M700 thanks

if you boot off the XP cd it will formay for you. I format all my drives with the XP cd when im going to load XP on a machine, or boot off a linux cd and let that format it, then load windows, i had to do that for a tough format twice.

one problem.. i done have the xp cd with me... she left them with me before she went outta townso ive only got the 98 se cd.. any suggestions?
