Let's say I just absolutely had to have AGP 8X (I don't, but for the sake of argument) ...

What's the best board / chipset to go with? I've got my eyes on the new 2.500 GHz (25x100) Northwood as a massive overclocking candidate ... and I need to find Ollie Northwood a good home ...

1) dont get a 2.5Ghz(25x100) P4, get a 2.53(19x133)

3.3Ghz @133FSB (this is all you can hope to get) will not be any faster than a stock 2.8(533), P4 need memory bandwidth, you need high FSB to get speed not just higher CPU speed. you have little hope of getting the 2.5(25x100) much higher than 133FSB, trust me.

2) SIS chips are great BUT they dont overclock well, via chips are good but no better than an i845. get an i845 motherboard like the IT7 MAX, that is your best bet.

so get:
ABIT IT7 MAX
P4 2.53B (533bus)
a very good CPU cooler
take that P4 to:
3 EASY
3.1 pretty easy
3.2 good chances
3.3 hmm..descent chance
3.4+ get a better cooler :), still possible
