View Full Version : What Speeds Are People Getting with the Samsung PC2700 DTL with Max Timings?

All I want is to buy a KT333 and an XP1600 and take it to the 166FSB, or maybe a little further, but no further than 175. So, tell me the best/cheapest ram to do this with. I'm thinking it will be the Samsung, but if you guys out there can't get these speeds with it, let me know.
Will Samsung Original PC2700 DTL suffice? I hope so because it's only $65 shipped. Otherwise which Ram could you recomend. I DONT want to spend $110 on Corsair.

i have the Samsung Original PC2700 DTL 512mb stick.. i went to 173fsb on a axp1600+ 10x multi defualt voltages, max timings. The dtl will do 180fsb with some voltage more if you tinker with it. So you should be ok. If you wanna oc very far you might wanna look inot getting a epox, as it had voltage mods that go pretty high on vmem. So ull get a nice oc.

with my epox i am at 190 and most relaxed timings...still burning in and i think i can get trubo timings out of it....i also have ram sinks on it and it is a 3v...
I can use CAS 2 up to 173 on a Epox 8k5a2+ and definitely not 2-5-2, a very bad idea. I dont give more than 2.8 though. With a bios that have cpu decode enabled and some wpcredit tweaks I get high 25xx and 42-4300 in pcmark mem-test - if that tells you something. Only got a 1.4 tbird so not that bad... All other mem settings I can fiddle with, command rate is 1, with but not 3-6-3 - well at 166 I think 2-5-3 is ok but I will never change TRCD again... another story of how to save XP corrupted registry files when even failsafe dont work ;) Think it can do about 185 at slower timings. Weird, seems locked somehow - may be some internal voltage crap feature? My so so results could be due to cpu, mobo, voltage or bad weather but have seen same story told many times now - seached like mad for easy solutions. Matter of luck what you get out of it I think. But it will probably do SPD at 166, default voltage gracefully.
Complicated stuff with mem vs. mobo - ie. I use onboard Highpoint controller, onboard LAN, onboard audio - does it make a difference to mem? bios? I wouldnt bet it does not but still say DTL is evil at heart ;)
I have no interest in 190 and higher fsb but it would be nice to use up to 180-185 with fastest timings and no trouble, ease of use. The board can easily do that. If that was the case DTL would still be considered half-bad! Seems Samsung have gone really conservative, I have trouble believing they dont know what they are doing. May be CTL was too good and DTL is locked like it was some cpu?

WELCOME TO THE FORUMS Tarzan
I guess Samsung decided that they could sell the ctl chips to other companies making pc3200 ram, and use the dtl chips themselves? I mean i doubt they really care how high above stock their memory will run.
CTL must be hell to do business with. Samsung huge company - how to ask higher price when selling pc3000 or 3200 chips to mem manufacturers when their own slower pc2700 take the win? ;)
No, Samsung not interested in, may be not even aware of, 210 fsb but their modules dont run on max doing spd on 166 either ;) Compared to other modules DTL is on the level of generic mem - doubt Samsung want ppl to go "stay away"

Epox 333 mobo, 1600, and samie dtl 2700 will get you way over 166..
When I was using my 256 samsung 2700 dtl, I got up to 200x9@1.85,2.7..
I ran it at 185x9 24/7 crunching seti..
Mine can do 170 at 2-3-6-3, 4-way interleave with ease. I can't push any of the timings faster without memtest86 returning errors, tho. I am at 2.7v.
yeah samsung is an ace company, theyre so big they even sell their chips to a close competitor of theirs, yes CORSIAR buys its ram chips from samsung! dont believe me? take off your heat sink and look what it says on there :)
Its basically the same ram corsiar and samsung, they perform pretty equally.

Corsair have used everything, I've got corsair modules with samsung, hyundai, and NEC chips, I've heard they've used winbond recently.

I'm running my 512mb of Mushkin PC2700 at 412mhz, settings are 2.5-3-3-7. Getting around 3000 in SiSandra. Oh yeah, 2.8volts.
Yes of course Corsair gets chips from the same production line that did my DTL ;) I cant be sure but I would think Samsung makes dozens of dif. chips, in dif. qualities for dif. markets. DTL is not made for Corsair or you can slap me silly. If Samsung really sell them the exact same chips Corsair will change supplier in 2 seconds.
TwinMOS also use Samsung - and Winbond - and Hundix or something, for the same model pc2700! What you get depends on which box they pick it from. Doenst mean they all perform equally.
Only details about mem matters, Samsung sucks, Samsung is great is meaningless. I actually chose the DTL cause all I heard was buy "CB3" well I did ;)
