View Full Version : [SOLVED] Floppy assistance required

In an earlier post, I had complained that 2 floppy drives of mine had died. One had made weird noises; I think that legitimately died. However, on the other one, I finally got around to replacing the drive with a nice Sony one off of Newegg, and it still doesn't work. The power LED is always on, and the drive is there in My computer, but clicking it or doubleclicking it causes a freeze, and my ctrl-alt-del caused a BSOD once out of 3 times. Im thinking that it might be the floppy cable; Ill have a chance Thursday to replace it and test it out (Why the delay? personal stuff you dont want to know). Anyway, I would appreciate any other suggestions or help given :)
Thanks in advance

LED allways on means the ribbon cable is installed 180 degrees off (upside down). You have to use the end connector as well. If it is installed correctly, then it must be a bad cable.

Sonny and Repo are right: I've experience this myself many times. Just flip reverse the cable.

I tried changing the ends, i.e. the mobo end of the cable in the floppy, but didn't do the flip. Thinking back, I think that's the answer :). Will update when I get a chance to try it out.

I only say that because I remember back in the day I had specifically noted the flipped connection...
