glad to have you with us.

the client thing is this: there is the folding project and the genome project. this options was put in place because they made it so one client could be used for either project.

if you choose folding only then you will only get folding units. if you choose genome then you get those. if you choose no pref then you will get whatever is available. 99% of us here put folding only but i am sure they are a few that are doing units for both

Genome@Home is another distributed computing project that's been integrated with Folding. I usually make my config file only download fah protiens but you can do what you want. You get points for both.

I'm sure NAS has provided a much more indepth post while I was writing. :)
