OK the AX7 is fine on my tbird but I want to put something else under it like a 1600+ but I cant remove the thing :@

What is the best, safest way to get the thing off my chip without damaging anything?

take the mobo out, this makes it the rest of the process much easier. Find a thin flat head screwdriver, push down and out. Simple. But if this doesnt work find another thin metal tool and push out while using the screwdriver to push down. DONT LET THE SCREWDRIVER SLIP. If you want a video of this process head over to the amd website.

The AX-7 is very tricky to remove. Be sure to use a small-enough screwdriver, and keep trying. It takes a while.

i know what he is talking about

i just removed mine and man..it was a mother

use a small screw driver( flat head) to push down

then use a second on to stick between the socket and the clip and twist a little when you push down with the #1 screw driver

i had to pop off one side a t a time

its tough but i just put some AS3 on there to replace my origanal AS1 and my temps dropped ~ 6F

loaded @ 91F @ 1.89volts @ 1760 mhz @ 160 fsb

Use a small bit of plastic card over the area where you are using the screwdriver. That way if it slips the plastic will protect the MB.

That has saved my rear a few times:)

Remove the fan. You know if somebody could make a special tool for this job there would be a big demand for it. (I would buy it)

So I am now going to remove if without killing my m/board, and I think I may replace it with something new.

What is an easy to get on and off heatsink to use, as the ones that use the m/board holes easyier than the clamp ones?
