I dont know if this is possible but i know it would be very difficult to do!

Why not move the cpu socket there are only 400 odd wires to solder or you could have like a socket extension say 100mm long and you could cool it to -30 and not worry about insulating the mother board. You would only have to insulate the socket plus you could cool the back of the cpu as the centre of the socket is already empty.

The main reason i am asking is would there be problems with power to the cpu or problems with data transfer?

Hmm, that seems like a good idea, but I would think that there would be "noise" issues that would corrupt signals between the CPU and socket. (EM interference between wires, etc.) Perhaps if the wires were really well shielded. Also, differing lengths of the wires could potentially be a problem. (Signals may arrive out of sink.) Not sure what to do there. And also the possibility that the resistence in the wires, though small, degrades the signal just enough to cause problems.

Hmm, it would be extremely interesting if somebody were to get that working!! Nice idea! -- Paul

It is almost guranteed to have problems.
Don't mess with the MB, esp when you have to manually extend 40 something wires.... you're asking for problems.

I don't know the specs on DDR but RDRAM requires no more than six inches between processor and memory.
