View Full Version : WaterCooling Experiences!
how long have you had your watercooling?
have you had much problems compared to air cooling?
would you go back to air cooling?
how much you spent on your water cooling setup?

about 6 months,
Nope, aside from when I forgot to clamp my water block to my cpu and fried my 1800+, but i guess that is the equivalent of forgetting to attach a heatsink. and my direct die expirence had some problems, but no problems form the normal setup
Only if the oceans dried up.
About 250-300 usd, I cool my Vid Card, North bridge and CPU, plus the cost of the resavoir that I built plus all the other unessacary stuff that i did cuz i felt like it... normal setups should cost around $100-$120

I have been using water for 3 months.I have had no problems.I would consider air cooling if SLK 800's were real cheap.I spent about 45 US on a maze 3 and used an old aquarium and pump laying around.
have it for two months now.
reading through this forum, never had any major problems.
no
about $200, some parts from fleabay. :D

I have both:)
My workstation is watercooled, and I have had no problems with it- took the easy way out and bought a Swiftech kit (H202c) which I put in my case. About $250 last February, I think it was....
Its great for experimentation, and can either keep things very cool, or very overclocked. Guess which I pick? :D
I have my Farm computers all on air, and it is very effective and maintenance free.
But loud: the Farm lives in the cellar....
I can't see going back to air on my workstation. Ever.

I wont ever go back, the silence is amazing

Have had water for about 1 month now
No problems yet.
backup puter is air cooled(ax-7) the silence with water is just unbelievable.
Spent about $450 CAD, but went overboard on most things but it works great!!

how long - march 2002
more problems - no
go back to air - not on my personal computer, but for others air only!
how much - about $75
here is my rig - http://ghettoblasters.com/tomfiles/mycomputer/article.html
1 day. love the silence as opposed to two cpu fans because it's a dual :)
my monitor danced around at first but i changed the refresh rate and that cleared it up.
if you went to lan parties weekly and banged it around alot air would be nice. but not just sitting on my desk.
124 so far. ;)
around 2.2 years, or something near that. mainly did it first just 'because', it didn't gain that much extra mhz on my k7 over air(around 50-100).
5e for the first block(alu U drilled)
~25e for the pump
~10e for hoses/misc
and now 23e for new alu block last summer(the old one was getting clogged, which i suppose was because i did run open bucket and just add water style for loooong time).
if i decide to get better cpu i might try direct die on this duron..
load temps 31-33 (in socket) now that the summer is gone and shortened the hoses.
Well let me think, got the main parts for free was a gift that I hinted at very much. The new pump and Hcore ran me about 50. I have been running it for lets see I would say 1 year now. Only problems that I have run into were totally my fault. Like the time the water froze in my rad when it was like -40 outside and I ducted it to my window, or the time I cracked my duron from clamping. For all the things that happend I would not hit air again, waawaa is way to much of a braggin right and head turner. Still get laughed at when i say i have watercooled pc.

how long have you had your watercooling?
Oh...probably about 8 months now...but I am always seeming to toy with it, get a different case, new radiator or something new, so it has been always changing.
have you had much problems compared to air cooling?
No. Less problems actually. Its sometimes a pain to change anything (IE, cool the gpu after you have everything set up for the cpu..) But other than that...no leaks, and good cooling.
would you go back to air cooling?
No, no, no. The silence is too nice...and it is very addictive.
how much you spent on your water cooling setup?
Sadly, (although I won't admit it to myself) somewhere between 200 and 250 usd.

I still havent put it all together yet as im waiting to recieve my 'unlocking kit' from 'highspeedPC'
I've been 'leak testing' for a while now and no probs (except my girlfriend thinking im insane)
I would use aircooling where its necessary(my girlfriends ebay machine) but for O/Cing water helps alot
As for cost:
heatercore__________________________$20
Tubing_____________________________$10
Barbs,clamps,epoxy___________________$10
Waterblock__________________________$30
Pump(maxijet1200)___________________$free, but they run around $20
2X120mm fans_______________________$9
Extra PSU(250W)_____________________$5
Radiator shrouds_____________________$free, i made 'em
Some heatshrink tubing________________$5
Waterwetter etc______________________$not much
Information and support from the people @ O/C forums.................
PRICELESS!
My humble advice is: Take your time, RESEARCH, and always 'leak test' your setup before you put it near your 'money pit'.
Watercooling can of-course lead to other expenses, like needing a bigger case, more waterblocks to cool other components & everyone worst nightmare...replacing everything because you gave it a 'unscheduled bath'.
Oh, and i found that a 'shim' is a good idea if your nervous about cracking the cpu when you attach the waterblock...
