just recently my system has not been shutting down... i have XP Pro, and whenever i restart or shutdown the computer hangs up at the "Windows is shutting down" screen... could this be a hardware/driver issue...? thanks for any info...

mine used to do this...when ever id click the shutdown...then SHUTDOWN in the start menu, it would just hang and id come back hours later screaming you lil **** at my pc. I just resolved this by smacking my power button instead, and you can have windows make it so it shuts down restarts or whatever if your computer supports it.

I had that problem as well with my XP Pro, until i loaded the SP1.
I just forced it off by killing the power button.

ok, i just reinstalled Windows (well, i just did the upgrade) but it's still doing it... it's really annoying me... my laptop have most of the same stuff installed as my desktop but i never had a problem with the laptop...
Maybe it is the power supply, and also maybe you have some program in the background that's keeping the computer busy.

yes...!!! i fixed it...! i installed X-Setup and just set force quit non responding programs in the shutdown menu... i also updated from the MS website... so that might fixed the problem too... not the SP1... i am on 56k... just the regular updates...
