I'm gonna buy some PC2700 Micron RAM. I have a choice between two different types. One has a Cas Latencey of 2.5, and the other one has a latency of 2. I know the one with 2 is better, but how much better? Explain to me what Cas Latency is pleaze.

I will have to over clock to actually actually get the RAM running at what it should by default.

Anyways, is the Cas 2 latency worth an extra $10 over the Cas 2.5 latency?

There you go. Get the Cas 2, but read this informative article (http://www.corsairmicro.com/main/trg-cas.html) concerning the subject first :)

Well, if my FSB is @ 266, and the RAM is @ 333, overclocking wouldn't squeeze anything else out of the memory, except just utilize more of what was meant to be used.
I think I'll just stick with the 2.5. Any objections?

Yeah...at least on my board...
if you run the memory at 166mhz and the cpu at 133mhz it is fine, but if you step the cpu up to say...143mhz then the ram is now running at 176.

Finally, I understand!!! Thanx for the link to the article, I want Cas 2 for mine!!!:D

So running synchronous is having, say 266mhz cpu and DDR2100 memory (266mhz)...
while asynchrounous would be running a 266mhz cpu with faster / slower ram. For example with DDR3200 memory, which runs at 3200/8=400mhz...

correct?

if my previous assumptions are true, which configuration is more desirable? Synchronous or asynchronous... I have heard people async is better for AMD systems...

Well, having is async by having your RAM lower wouldnt be as good as sync, but having your RAM higher and having it be async that way, well seems common sense that would be better. But I really dont know for sure.

Would Cas 2 really be an improvement over 2.5 considering my situation?

(I have PC2700 DDR 333MHz, running @ 266MHz, so I have TONS of room for over clocking the FSB w/out putting any stress on the RAM whatsoever.)
