I have a Duron running at 896mhz(taken by WCPU), but i paid for a 900mhz, i was wondering is it normal for AMD's to do this. Also Do i need to do the pencil trick to overclock it? Thanks ahead of time!

This is not the fault of the chip, the motherboard doesn't supply 100 exact MHz to the chip, so if it supplies only 99.5mhz instead of 100, you get 99.5 x 9 = 896.. this is nothing to worry about. unlocking is always a good idea. it also depends on your mother board, if you got one that supports multiplier changes through jumpers/switches or BIOS then unlocking can prove usefull. at first unlock the chip and set it 133 x 7 that'll give you 933MHz and you can see if you chip can do the 133FSB, if it can just start upping that FSB until you reach the limit, if you temps allow it (under 50C full load) then up the vcore a bit to gain stability at higher speeds.
To help you better, you should let us know the mobo vendor and model, and the other components you have such as ram, video card and PSU...

I can choose from either 900mhz or 1200mhz in my BIOS, but when i choose the 1200mhz, i see no change when i run my test. Every thing else is locked, i can only change the speed can't touch FSB, etc. When I get home i'll post more info.

If it is saying 1200 mhz , then you are changeing the fsb to 133 (9X133=1197) , maybe just hidden options ,what brand PC is it?

Socket-462 for AMD K7's right from the manual: "The mainboard supports Socket-462 processor FSB speeds of 200/266mhz."???
uses T-bird chipset... *flips through book* nothing else, seems useful. BTW I had it built for me by a small local company
