in the AMD forum one of the stickies says that western digitals are known to scramble at 39Mhz on the PCI bus. is this true with the new caviars or is it still unknown.

Never heard of that. I've run high pci speeds up to 40 without problems. Of course I can't guarantee that all WD drives will do that. I would say some people get luckier than others. I would say that it is unknown since not many people overclock like we do and I have never seen a database on it.

And Welcome to the Forums.

Hum, mine (15G ATA 66) runs fine @ 168/4, though currently running 166/4 to get best CPU/FSB speed compromise. Something was crapping out at higher FSB clocks, was getting VMM errors in Windoze, think it was the southbridge getting warm though. Never had probs with WDs in 83/2 systems, had probs with older Maxtors on 75/2 or even Asus "turbo mode" 68/2 systems though.
