Some of you may have seen this, some may have not, but look at this: http://setiathome.ssl.berkeley.edu/setifuture.html.
From the looks of the timeline, the Aricebo data recorder will be shut off in Jan 2003, and the SETI@Home Data server will end in late feb/early march 2003.
While the Southern Hemisphere Data recorder is going to start about then as well, there is nothing mentioning the Southern Hemisphere Data Server. That means here in a few months, after the Workunits dry up, we're going to be done.
Personally, I'm thinking about doing the Astropulse. It basically processes the same workunits for other things. What do you all think? Should we make up a new overclockers.com Astropulse team?
I'm not sure what all that Backend science is though...
Thoughts?

Well, I'm going to crunch until I can crunch no more. Then I may decide to go to the OC folding team or dedicating it all to UD (I currently have some P166's doing UD and occasionally my PIII). If they get a new project lined up like I heard somewhere, I'll take part in that too. I dunno, I may do any one of the three... I'm undecided.

If, and that's only if, the OC SETI team winds up (which I doubt), I'll be switching to Folding....
It's documented somewhere that this is simply the end of phase 1. Seti@Home 2 is supposed to start up after this phase ends.

Being something of a Space Cadet I will be sticking with Seti/Astronomy projects as long as they have something.
But I will probably switch another rig to the "other" team when this project ends.........:)
I'll just write a script to delete the results and keep crunching the same WU over and over...
;)

E-Mail Benz, I think he has a script like that, and a few others as well.
No doubt. I got an email from someone claiming to be him once. I should have saved it, but I figured Berkeley would take care of it at the time. It went something like "Haha you wish you know secret, haha" It didn't impress me to say the least.

uhh according to this
http://setiathome.ssl.berkeley.edu/setifuture.html#southern
Seti@home will continue with the southern sky project.

i, myself, was a bit worried 'bout the future of SETI@Home after i've read the above/first article some weeks ago. and was thinking, now.........what i'm gonna do w/ all these machines, sure it would be a nice heat producer in winter :D
now, i'm glad to hear there's SETI@Home 2 to extend, and oc.com seti team WILL stay intract and keep on crunching!!
i guess it "might" be a simple client version update to switch...

There was talk a while back that future SETI at HOME projects were definately in the works and would most probably be tied in with this:
http://boinc.ssl.berkeley.edu/
In reading some of the stuff there it appears that projects under that software umbrella may possibly even be multi-threaded.
Quoted directly from their Overview page:
Multiple participant platforms
The BOINC core client is available for most common platforms (Mac OS X, Windows, Linux and other Unix systems). The client can use multiple CPUs.
Web-based administrative interfaces
BOINC provides web-based interfaces for account creation, preference editing, and participant status display. A participant's preferences are automatically propagated to all their hosts, making it easy to manage large numbers of hosts.
Configurable host work caching
The core client downloads enough work to keep its host busy for a user-specifiable amount of time. This allows the host to continue to function during project downtimes, and decreases the frequency of connections.

Emptiness?:o Feeling like a dead duck after the end of SETI?:( you cannot sleep anymore without that nice fans noise?
!!*TA DAAAAA*!!
Don't panic guys!
YETI@Home (http://www.phobe.com/yeti/index.html) is ready for you!!!

I'm still not sure, though.. I talks about the data collecting, not the actual server for us to connect to to grab WU.

I think that when (and only if when) all WU dried up and S@HII haven't come around, I'll switcha little to F@H until the new project is available, but don't think that will happen.

Im with most everyone else here, if there is a break between seti and seti 2, Ill fold :)

I think it would be a nice show of support for the O/C Folding Team if we all as a team join O/C Folding untill we can crunch SETI again. It's all in the name of Overclockers.com.
I'll switch as soon as things dry up.
Lets all go folding, if we do after seti ends then the processing power total for folding will be unbelieveable, we'll be able to be #1! and also its all for a good cause.

I'll fold for a while....
But as soon as SETI II comes on line...IM THERE!!!!
If there is any lag between SETI projects then I might fold for the interim but I'll switch back as soon as a SETI project is rolling again.

I had planned to do a little folding with AOA once I reach the top 1000 in Seti. If there's a break with the Seti program I'll just do that full time, but I certainly be back for Seti2.

You folks are making those folders drool. They may even try to sabotage S@H II to prevent you guys from going back.

Isn't the new SETI program going to include a larger buffer and enable hyper-threading. It would make sense and all considering the power of today's processor and system standards. Anyone know about this?

I've also heard something to the same effect.

If you check the link, it tells you some about the new developments they are considering for S@HII.....and yes, SMP is going to be included into the algorith, and it will be open source, so you could help into the development of the program.....if you are a good progammer you'll help find ET
