What makes Antec true power different from any other PSU?

most people use them because of the name.. antec makes GOOD powersupplies theres no doubt about it. the true power series are really get products, with line voltages that are always right one even at insanely high loads.. although they're too pricy for my budget.. to be honest, 2 of my machines use Sparkle power supplies, which really surprised me with their build and line qualities.. i havent had ONE problem with them.. although my next machine will probably have an Antec, its gonna be big big big! :) hope that helped..

If I remember right, the TruPower line has a 3% line tolerance vs. 5% of most other PSUs. Power PC and Cooling PSUs have a 1% tolerance and also command a much much higher price.

Absolutely right.
not to mention the truepower are ultra quiet. I never realized how loud PSU's where until I got one that doesn't make any noise. I have the 430W, and I'll be an antec customer for life.

those PC Power & Cooling ones are niiiiice though.. a friend of mine has a 550w version me thinks? quiet, and built like a rock.. not to mention his lines are dead on even with huge volt mods, oc'ing, many drives, etc.. god if i only had the money :D
but yes, FleshEating Bob, to answer your question more directly, you dont NEED an Antec True Power 430w.. but you DO need a QUALITY power supply if you want to push your system to the limit..

doesn't the true power regulate the 3.3v and the 5v seperatly??? so if there is a huge load on the 5v it won't bump up the 3.3v as well???
I may be way off... but that's what i thought.

Yeah, it regulates the lines independently.

You want a quality PSU while overclocking to hold up with the power going through your system. A PSU with horrible quality may cause reboots/instability and be just a PITA. Anyways, the Antec is good in terms of quality and price, also not to mention that they're fairly quiet.

Why not an enermax ? I have an enermax and is very good. Volts are within specs, it doesn't make noise (not that I care, I love noise cuz then I know pc is working ;) ) and has a killer blue colour :p

My experience with them was rather bad. They have some quality issues whereas not every PSU of theirs gets the same results, a majority of them preform pretty poorly if you ask me. My experience with them stunk as I got a whooping 4.76v on the 5v before opposed to the 5.05v at load I get now.
Enermax was the reason I got an Abit KR7A-RAID over an EPoX 8KHA+ due to their troubles with Enermax.
