View Full Version : What the ?? Internet is screwy
OK I cant figure this out. Every so often nothing responds when Im on the net. If I click on a link it does nothing. I need to click 10 times or so and then it goes. This happens randomly while Im online. I have Verizon DSl Internet explore 6 and onboard Lan which the driver says is Realtek Rtl8139/810x Family PCI Fast ethernet NIC. Why would the driver say pci? Is this the problem? Please help!
PCI is an interface of your PC. It's normally where you plugged in the Card (Networkcard in your case.) But it can also be connected to PCI when it's onboard.
What the driver says, is not important. It's just a text string, there could also stand something like "Hello World!" ;) and it would still work. If it's the correct driver for this NIC, then it's probably connected via PCI!

Its not in a PCI slot, thats why I was surprised it said PCI. If its not the driver then what could be causing this problem
I'm just saying that the text could be different. could be a drifer problem. It's like it a car. it can be red or green, but it's still car.
Driver could say to be pci, but needn't to be pci.
it's probably pci, cause it says so, there is no need to write something different there.
well id don't know what this error could be about.
do you have probs when using your card for lan things like lan games or copying files of the lan?
maybe your modem is broken? or your ISP is crap?
These are just thought that came up in my mind, it doen't have to be the nic...

I dont have other problems So now im thinking it might be Internet explorer 6.
try opera or netscape or whatever...and see if it's stil there, then you know

I find that using Xp must click on a link 2 or 3 times before it works..
Stupid XP crap...
Im running XP and no probs. XP is more stable than the hole 9x series. i only boot up once a day, not reboots. just great.
Not all errors that accur are windows errors!
Some people just delete important system files and then windows crashes, i know that from some friends, who want to get the pc faster and then it only crashes. and then windows get's all the blame.
the win9x line wasn't that good, but 2k and xp is really good.

It was my ISP , Verizon, Went to their online help. Looks like its a common problem for them. They had me add a specific IP address instead of using automatic.

Yep i thought something like this was possible.
Glad you found it out and that it isn't IE's fault!:D

wish I figured it out before I wasted hours messing with IE!! :(
I am having that same problem in XP Pro, and i am on cox cable..i just dont know where the problem lies..with XP or my linux router..
Another case of PPPoE hell..... The static IP will solve that for you.
Its better.... not much for uploading but downloads are pretty good.

If your signal is weak the modem will lose HFC DS lock and if recover attempts fail it will reboot over and over. A weak signal can also slow your connection down and cause intermittent delays.
