hello anyone know... someone has to know
one of the most important components on a sound card is the codec chip.
never heard before of updating the bios on a sound card, but maybe you find something about the codec on it.
Live cards usually have the sigmatel STAC codecs on, you can search the Sigmatel (http://www.sigmatel.com) website for some info regarding this.
is it yet about the problem you used to get about the sound skipping in games?

try posting us about all things you tried out already. i remember there were many suggestions in the other thread. i remember i had even replied several times to that thread. i know you tried out with pci latency timer etc, etc..

ya that is the thing tho i got a new sound card... and it still does the exact same thing...
EDIT: could there have been any other options in setup bios that i overlooked... and i read somewhere there is hidden options that u can unhide somehow...
EDIT AGAIN: is IRQ the settings under Resources... if so here they are...
interrupt Request 10
input/output Range 1000 - 103f
i dont remember where you can find out about all the interrupt requests in your system under W98, but possibly under the folder System Tools you will find the System Information. if so then, open the IRQ directory and it will list you all the interrupt requests of your devices. check if you dont have the sound card sharing the same IRQ with other components.
this could lead it to give you such errors.
another thing i thought is about the chipset, once replacing the card didnt resolve the problem. did you eve try to update the chipset drivers?
there are many issues relating to sound and the via chipsets, maybe you can get some help out of here (http://www.viaarena.com/?PageID=3).

the ACPI IRQ holder for PCI IRQ steering is also on 10
i have found a few onboard sound options in my bios and disabled them still did not work, and i also changed what IRQ it was on still no go.... could this be a OS problem???
send VIA, ASUS and Creative emails about your problem and check what they say about.
one thing you can still try is disabling ACPI, evenly from the bios (if you have the option available) or from device manager. the problem could be about one of your device drivers that doesnt work well with the acpi management.
i cant remember if you ever tried to run your system without all other devices, but still the sound card driver could cause error.
that is the problem i heard of bad ACPI support, and when a old component will fail to give the mainboard some of the information that the it needs to manage this component with ACPI enabled.
you need to change the HAL driver under windows to disable ACPI. this is the driver under "Computer". you can change it to "standard PC" - im not sure if thats what you get under W98.

I dont think there is an option to flash a sound card bios.
Have you tried going into Bios and setting an IRQ for the Sound Cards PCI Slot Manually?
Your problem sounds like an interrupt problem.
