I'm thinking of buying a dualie. It would save me some money if I bought 2 2100+ XP rather than 2 2100+ MPs. I was wondering how I would go about doing this. I know it involves connecting the L5 bridge but I'm not sure if this applies to the Tbreds. any info would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Last time I checked the 2100+ wasn't a T-bred(at least the one that is being sold now). It is pretty simple to MP unlock. You have to connect the L5 bridge all the way on the right(look at the pic). BTW, in this pic the bridge is not cut but the new ones have the L5 cut so you will have to use some type of gap filler.

How do you unlock it? with what materials and such?

I used the highspeedpc unlocking kit(for unlocking multi as well). You will need some type of non-conductive material to fill the gaps and then a conductive material to connect the bridges. Some people use crayon shavings, epoxy and a number of other things. I have found the highspeedpc kit to be the easiest.

1) I used (A) non conductive silicon thermal compound from radio shack to fill in the gaps. (B) rear window defogger conductive paint form any auto parts store to make the connection.

2) The sticky on the SMP forums has more directions.

I think the links in the second post are best.

3) The AMD chip forum has a stickies on unlocking. They have general unlocking, unlocking video sticky, and a tbred OC guide. Go there for detailed instructions and pictures.

4) I have NOT seen any posts on how to make a TBRED an MP.

5) I just got two xp1600+, did the mp mod, and they work fine, I also multi unlocked them but have not "pushed" the multiplier yet.

6) I got the msik7d, as it is the most OC friendly board, but I understand the tyans may be more stable.

7) NOTE, the duallie AMD so far only OFFICIALLY support PC2100. And the MSI has the highest FSB of only 150. This means that in general, duallie boards are stable, but don't expect a BIG OC.

Good luck.

How can i tell the difference between a Tbred and a Palomino XP? so thePalominos are the only ones that turn into MPs???

Hmm. I know everything 2000 and below is pally, not sure where the change to tbred comes. I think toms hardwared had a picture of the different chips.

We KNOW the pally do MP. We KNOW HOW to MP from an XP on a pally. I HAVE NOT YET SEEN a post on how to MP from an XP tbred.

I'm pretty sure it CAN be done, just have not seen anyone post instructions on how to MP a tbred.

We KNOW that to unlock the MULTIPLIER it is diffeent on a pally than a tbred. (see amd cpu stickies). So I SUSPECT there may be a difference to MP a tbred also, but again, I don't think anyone has tried to MP a tbred yet.

good luck

ok, thanks. I think that I'm going to go with an MP just because I'm fearfull I'll get an XP that didn't pass to make it an MP. I have the worst luck.
ok, another question...
are the MPs multiplyer locked?

Several over at 2CPU have successfully run TBred in MP configuration. That, combined with the fact that they're unlockable a LOT easier, makes dual 1800+ TBreds look like my next chip upgrade. The Durons are just feeling a bit long in the tooth....
