I just started Folding full-time last week, and had a thought(it happens now and then:p)

On the Seti Team there is a benchmark work unit that members download and run to compare times, and also check Overclock stability/validity of results.

It has worked pretty well to both find unstable OCs, and encourage members of the team to speed up their rigs, thereby crunching more in the long run. And a nice little competition too:D

I was just wondering how people on the Folding Team felt about doing something like this?

I would think using one of the smaller Proteins, to minimize lost time (can't submit 200 of the same protein after all;)) would work, and maybe increase production a bit...

Just an idea, feel free to shoot it down if you wish:)

EDIT: I thought a link might be a good idea;)

This has proposed numerous times by numerous people. Stanford has not put anything like this together yet.

To clarify: the team started it for themselves(:)) and it is nothing official; just used within the team, and at least one other team is doing it too.

There was a thread I was reading on the official folding forums..

http://forum.folding-community.org/viewtopic.php?t=1380&highlight=benchmark

As you can see TheWeatherMan, the author of EMIII may get around to writing one sometime. That is, if he didn't release an update to EMIII every 4 days ;)

I think both official Seti & folding benchmarks would be prime canidates for CPU reviewers to stick in all of their reviews. I know I would be more interested in those results than any of the benchmarks they are using now.
