MODS: Sorry if this is in the wrong place but... I didn't know where else to put it!

Are there any member's here who edit? What programs do you use? What kinda computer do you edit on? I would like to know as much as possible. I've been doing my homework, and I'm really wanting to get into video. Any response is much appreciated!

I do.

Money restrictions have forced me to edit using my S-Video In on my video card at the moment, as my old firewire died on me.

If your just starting to get into video editing, and not sure if it's for you, stick with a cheaper(and easier) program. I've personally used Ulead VideoStudio, and although you have less control, its a good place to start.

I'm using Adobe Premiere now. Awesome package and a huge price. I actually bought it used for cheap a while back. If your ever going to get serious, Premiere is something to look at.

A fast computer and big hard drive are pretty much necessary for full-scale projects. However I've produced an entire music video on my old 800mhz Athlon without dropping frames. So, a super fast computer is not required.

Good luck!

Thanks Zuck. Actually, with student discounts I can get Premiere 6.5 for about 150 bucks. I think that would be the way to go.

My experience with premier hasnt been so good. I havent tried 6.5 yet cause I havent been editing lately, but a good program I thought was great to use was Sonic Foundry vegas Video 3.0. I found the learning curve to it is not as steep as it is for premiere. Transistions and effects to video clips are easy to add and I found it alot easier to navigate throughout program. One thing i dont like about premiere is the drop down menus where you choose the effects and stuff, cause I find it just gets confusing when you have to keep expanding and collasping all the menus to find what you want.

As for my computer since I do not edit often (only for school) I havent built my computer to video edit but Ive seen alot of people that are really into it usuing dual g4 macs, and have seen alot of dual amd systems geared for video editing.

The Dual G4's are the uber systems apparently, but they come at an uber-price. Final Cut Pro is supposedly the best software for professional editing. I haven't used it, mainly because I can't afford a stinking mac. I'd rather build an AMD duallie and deck it out for the same price! (Heck, even get a CAMERA!)

Sony has some nice cameras but even better cannons gl1 and xl1 lines are awesome for digital video.

Sorry but I dont know what uber is hehe :eh?:

Uber is German.. basically "Super".

I've seen the footage that comes from those cannons.. they are really really nice!

I once did a project with an XL1, beautiful camera.

Oh yea, and Macs have now fallen behind in what was once their 'domain', Dual AMDs and P4s beat out Dual G4s when it comes to video.

I've got a Canon ZR25MC. I use the Firewire port on my SB Audigy. For software, I use both Adobe Premier w/Hollywood FX, and Pinnacle Studio. I found Pinnacle to be easier to use. Both are expensive progs though, but.....

Lets see if I can guess where to move this :D Either General Hardware or Other Software. Lets See what a mod would do :D

I recommend Sonic Foundry Vegas Video as subconcept also suggested. I worked with the demo and it was very easy to use. I also hear alot of people like it.

I use Adobe Premiere 6.5 on my current setup (see sig). However, I sometimes also use iMovie on my G4 mac, but iMovie, is too simplistic for me. It doesnt have many features but is very user friendly and does a decent job. My money is still with premiere tho. To me, its a strong all round editor.
