Here is a question for the hard core water coolers out there I was told by a friend that there is 2 different Socket “A” heat sink mounting hole locations, and 4+ hole sizes!?!
I am on my third homemade W/B (1=”Z” shape 2=bowl 3= pin head array….when I finish) and would like to make my blocks universal for any mobo with the mounting holes, so I would like to know for sure if there are different locations as for the mounting hole sizes I have been using 8-32nds and figure with a washer it should fit any of them. If you guys could tell me in inches or millimeters the locations of your holes and your board make and model it would help me a great deal.
**My information is 36mm by 66mm with 6mm hole diameter**
Thank you,
Stephen T.

Hmm..I only heard thtat there was ony pne size for the amd mobo holes (makes sens that it shoul dbe universal, there can't be like 5 differernt ZIF sockets)

Anyways, I have somethin that'll help you. It's a pic of the AMD mobo holes up to scale (so the holes are perfectly 33 mm and 66 mm apart)

I just hop ehte image doesn't warp or anything

dear,

by my computation, you have to print this in 140,642 pixels/inch resolution to have a 1:1 template. which I would really have appreciated a week ago when I cut base plate and counter plate for my (first) waterblock.

thanks anyhow, I will make use of the template

hmm, well, I have 1024 * 768 resolution screen resolution, but would that matter? I printed it out in IE

all amd k7 boards are the same for the holes, some holes are bigger than the others,

the k8 boards almost look like they will have the 36x66 holes!

Thank you, I can see this helping a lot of the new water heads in this forum

*PS I have a PC Chips mobo that is very close to 36mm (measured across 2 gauge pins with digital calipers subtracting have the dia. of each pin and gave me the reading of 35.7mm)
