This (http://www.theinquirer.net/?article=5473) might explain the delays.

well this really doesn't sound very good. we still have to hope that the Tbreds "B" will be good. so AMD can at least keep, or try to keep up with intel these upcoming months, and again have to hope that AMD will be able to get something done w/ its Fab30 plant, or they're in even bigger trouble than now.
The firm is already low on cash, and has to get clients quickly, and sell as much products as possible, my guess is, unless this happens, we'll go back to the Pentium classic days when there was next to no sign of other manufacturer's except Intel, and the chip prices, again will be sky high. Ofcourse till AMD get's itself together and releases "Athlon" chip that will compete with Intel's "P3" & "P4s", and kick arse.

Im afraid we are seeing AMD's last few glory years. I hate to say this, but I don't think they will be around in 2005. Hammer will make or break this company I think.

I don't know about the company completely disappearing, but if things stay like this they won't be a contender for a long time. They'll probably file bankrupcy, then go under a reconstruction, and go into 'safe' things to make back some money, i.e. don't compete with Intel on the desktop market. The hammer really is gonna be pivitol for AMD. I think that's why they're going nuts over it, making sure it's good despite the delays. Better to have an insanely great chip that's late rather than a half assed buggy chip on time.

Now just hope for AMD's sake that it IS insanely great...

Well thats the final push i needed to switch back to intel. I think i'll try out that new SIS chipset for the P4 and grab mabye a 2.4 gig chip.

Its too bad, as i really do like the Athlons, i'm quite happy with my current setup. But lets face it, it's only downhill from here.

As more and more poeple switch to intel, thats less sales, less revenue, then the chipset makers will suffer, so then we get even worse chipsets from via.

Kinda sucks though, i was really looking forward to a Nforce2/2600 combo.

Well I'm not going to sell out on AMD yet, I'll wait to they disappear or start producing crap. I had planned on waiting a while for the bartons anyway, whats a bit longer...I'll just have more $$$ to blow on the system:D

I think AMD is trying to compete on too many fronts with out the resources to support that. They have shown a fair following for their Desktop and moble processors. They announced that they had built the first double 10 nm gate transistor (fin FET). The problem with that is the transistor is sub 50 nm technology and they are had a hard time ramping to a 130 nm technology. All the while the compitition is going to be at 90nm next year. They are grasping at straws when the should be "dancing with who brung um" the desktop processor.

Yep, amd is competting in too many markets to be successful. Im not selling out on them yet, and prolly never, becuase I love their prices!

When someone treats me good I try and stick with em, I'm just like that. In this case it's a company rather than a person, but same deal. Their stuff isn't really bad, it's just like what, 1-2% slower than the 2.8 P4?

I'm not gonna blindly follow AMD to the end, but I'm definetely not gonna help Intel monopolize the market, at least not while AMD is still competitive. If Intel makes a reasonably priced P5 or whatever and AMD is still basically where it is now, then I'd switch, but not now. A 2% jump in performance isn't enough for me, even if prices were the same. I know, some of you guys are all about being #1 in the benchies, but there's more to my thinking than FPS and SETI times.

well, everyone was hit hard in the computer industry from teh after-effects of 9/11. maybe amd will haggle behind a little while longer

if they dont come out with a new processor soon after or before intel dose i may consider switchig over but not until then.
i think they may be kinda like ATi, they just release the new card and it is pimp- or so i hear it is much better the the Geforce 4 and that is because they have better technology but they were behide for a while now they have a nice card because they waited a bit and made it good.:D :eh?: :D

I hope so as well! I remember the days when Intel was the only CPU chip maker...we all know what monopolys do to prices!:(
