I recently Installed a Maxtor ATA 133 PCI Controller Card on my pc with a Maxtor ATA 133 80GB HD attached to it, but for some reason I am getting poor preformance on this drive. Like when I go to move files to it the drive will somtimes lock up, When I go to run things off the drive they run very slow, and sometimes I get a Failed to write to drive type error. Why is this happening? Can somebody help me on this one?

Did you reinstall Windows when you went to the drive controller card?
Have you double checked all of the basics, such as the cable connection, and the fit of the card in the PCI slot? How does the drive show in Device Manager now?
I'm no expert, but I bet repair install of WIndows would solve the problem.

Well this is actualy a second hd I have installed. I have a 40GB with the windows xp OS on it. Though windows detects it as runnign fine and all its just that it seems to run slower than it should and I doubt itd be possible to run a game off it. I mean like it screws up sometimes when copying files to it too. Though one interesting note was that windows reads the drive as this: "Maxtor 6 L080L4 SCSI Disk Device"... why is it saying its an SCSI disk device?... I thought It was just a regular ATA 133 IDE drive?

Check for driver updates for the card. Also make sure the current bios on your main board has no issues related to that controller card.....

Maybe its a problem with the card? Try the drive on the onboard pci cable and see what happens.

Have you got the jumper on the drive set right?

I've seen that before, where Windows detects drives on controller cards as SCSI. I think that is simply the blanket way that they describe drives on controller cards.
Are both drives on the controller card? I think having one on the card, and one on the mobo IDE could make for some weird problems, but I could be wrong.
