View Full Version : question bout fsb and multiplier
im sort of new to this stuff so im wondering about my fsb and multiplier. its currently set at 133 and 11.5. is it better to give it a higher fsb and a lower multiplier or the other way around? also if i raise my fsb and lowered my multiplier but still kept the same clock speed what kind of changes would i be expecting like in temps and preformance. also could u give me some reccamendations on what to change it to
thanks, Auri87

Raising the FSB is good to a point, too high it it will screw up your PCI/AGP devices. Normally w/ a 4 in 1 divider a FSB of 140 to 150 is safe. It will cause more heat and it all depends on what your Mobo will handle.
The nomal method is to increase the FSB by 3Mhz at a time until you get a BSOD, then back it off 3 or so. I have found that 140 to 145 FSB is a safe range.

To get the best performance, you'll want to unlock the CPU. Then you can change the multiplyer. Running at 9.5 or 9 and turning on the 5:2:1 divisor, you'll be able to get much more FSB- if your ram can take it anyway. KX7's can hit 200 FSB with the right stuff and a low multiplyer. Even 10.5 x 170 would be better.
Any increase in clock speed or voltage above stock will increase the cpu temperature. Try to keep it under 46C when its under a full load. There are some stability testing programs and hardware monitors that can help you get an idea of load temp. Search for MBM5 and Folding@home or Prime95.
