View Full Version : Confused
Does the Asus A7M266-D board support non-registered DDR RAM. Would the following work:
Asus A7M266-D
512MB stick of Crucial PC2100 DDR RAM
Dual XP1600+ CPUS (w/ L5 bridge mod)
GeForce 4 Vcard

That board will run on the memory you list....

It will run it, but most people, including me, would advise you against running a dual CPU machine with non-registered memory. It might work, it might never work, it might only sometimes work. Registered memory is far more stable and it will be one less thing to have to troubleshoot if you do have any problems.
My two cents...

it should run fine with unbuffered ram, as long as you only use the first 2 slots.
Many dually users run fine this way, but most recommend spending the extra on ECC buffered ram for best stability.

Yep, 760MPX chipset will run unbuffered DRAM in slots 1 and 2.
Gopher it Dave!
I will probably go with one 512Meg stick of Crucial PC2100 unbuffered.
Unbuffered non-ECC : £81.89 + VAT (17.5%)
Unbuffered ECC : £91.79 + VAT
Registered ECC : £101.69 + VAT

If you are buying from scratch I would say get reg mem. You can only use unreg in slots 1 & 2 and I doubt you can mix and match. So effectivly you are limitting yourself to 2 dimm slots.

heh, once I fork out the £££ for this duallie, I wont have enough money to add RAM. Another 512MB later possibly, but later.
