View Full Version : Higher DDR Voltage = better stability?

Good Evening once again fellas...
Just wondering if raising the voltage of the DDR memory, i.e., from the stock 2.6 to say 2.7 or 2.8, (the only two other options offered by my MB) would effectively increase stability of an overclocked system. Ya know, does it have the same effect that raising the vcore voltage has?
Thanks gentlemen, (and ladies if there are actually any out there... )
Sometimes yes, sometimes no. You just have to try it.

If the memory is causing the instability then probably.
It is not a cure-all: if you have pci devices that don't like running out of spec then it will do nothing but warm your case up a bit more. Same thing if your cpu has hit its limits.
Some brands seem to like running at higher voltages a lot (Micron, including Crucial) others don't seem to get much benefit from it at all.

Alrighy folks...
Thanks. More experimentation to do then.

That would be trial and error. Keep asking questions and if at first you dont succeed...............

Welp,
Been using my system @ 2.7v ddr memory. So far so good...and no significant increase in mb/case temps.
You guys kill me half the time around here. I'm beginning to learn not to expect serious responses!:D
Then again, I'm not serious most of the time myself!:p

The information is always serious. Trouble is the wrapping paper is usually several steps across the line into insanity. (Which is the only thing that allows me to learn here without going....normal .....ugh:eek: )

if you are running aggressive memory timings, then i say yes, but sometimes the extra voltage is just not enough, and therefore will seem like it doesn't matter what it's at. on my memory, i run it at 2.85 volts, 2-2-5-2-2-1t. my memory is stable with the extra voltage.
