I just upgraded my system. Basically put the whole works apart and back together. Right now, it does nothing at power on, I hear a few ticks, and then nothing.
Any ideas of what I need to do?

Do you hear any beeps at all?
Are you sure the power to it is all plugged in correctly?
ummm, well im not sure if this would be of concern but your power button and lights on the front connect to the motherboard and if not hooked up correctly you wont power on. that has happened to me before.

I think that the only thing I am hearing is my Hard Drive spin up. I have tryed the power cables on the Motherboard, I have taken all of them off except for the power switch, and nothing. Also, my system starts soon as I plug the power in on the back, it doesn't wait for me to turn power on. And once power is on, I can't turn it off via the power switch

Few ticks, nothing else.

oh if you cant turn it back off via the power switch then you probably have that hooked up wrong on the mobo. so the comp does not post at all? just lights and noise correct?

yeah, lights and noise. I don't see how I can hood up power to the Motherboard wrong, there is really only 1 way to do it.

im not talking about from the psu to the mobo, im talking from the power button on the case to the mobo. thats more than likely your problem with not being able to turn it off from there. as for not posting, have you tried reseating your cpu?

Yeah, I tryed that, even left the heaksink and fan off this time. Still no beans. Might be looking at bad MB or Processor right out of the box eh?

Can you give a little more info like type of mobo and ram, etc. Are any of your case fans or heatsink fans spinning when you turn the power on? Did you try and reseat your memory?
I would highly discourage trying to boot your system without a heatsink/fan on that XP processor. That badboy will fry in a heartbeat. I hope that it never got a chance to boot when you took the heatsink off of there.
You know it really does sound like one of you connections that you run from your HD light, power on light and power on are mixed up. Try reading your MB manual and having ONLY the wire from your case power on to the motherboard power on. Pull everything from the MB and then put back in only: one stick of memory your video card and the CPU. USE YOUR HSF and fan at all times with power to the system. THere is a real good chance that you have fried your CPU and vioded your warenty by booting without the HSF on it. But you will see. Then boot up. See what you get
