Being a recent convert from AMD to Intel i have to say that Im quite impressed with the Intel Retail HSF. Sure its not an overclcokiers dream but it gets the job done and is very quiet running and easy to use
Does anyone know if Intel sells these HSF separately anywhere? Id love to find a plce where I could buy a ahndful of the retail HSFs that come with Intel boxed CPUs
If anyone has some ideas or links please let me know
Thank you

I don't think Intel sells them seperately but I'm sure you could find quite a few people who went with aftermarket coolers like me with their OEM HSF sitting around still.

you can find some at ebay, that's the only way i know of getting them alone
I have 2 you can buy :) I'm sure a lot of other people do as well
if u like the stock HSF then u will love this thread on how to make the fan run at full speed (http://forum.oc-forums.com/vb/showthread.php?s=&threadid=121331)

azn, does that trick work with the retail celeron fans or is there another way too do it?
no idea... never looked at those fans... does it vary in speed to? when the case gets hotter does the speed go up? if so then its just like any other heat senor resistor... if u can find it the just take the resistor out of the loop then it will go at full speed. so if the celeron is anything like the p4 fans then sure it will work u just have to find the heat sensor resister.

the pentium iii, ii and celeron (non-P4 based celerons) retail fans are not variable speed...
Coolermaster sells some hsf's that are nearly identical to the Intel ones. I bought one for 5 bucks off of www.newegg.com model # DP5-6I31C that is a very close match to the hsf that came with my 1.1 gig Celeron Tualatin.

My p4 2.4 at stock is having problems in games with this stock cooler, i'm idling 38 Celcius, i'm gonna use some arctic silver instead of that thermal pad junk

Intel HSF is doing a very good job. However, if you are into overclocking, you need to pay attention to the specs. Not all retail HSFs are the same. The following are what I found on retail P4 CPUs:
0.16A --- comes with 1.6A
0.18A --- comes with 1.8A
0.21A --- comes with P4 1.8
0.21A --- comes with P4 2.26B
The 0.21A HSF has very good performance. From my experience, it beats AVC Sunflower cooler in my overclocking 1.8A to 2.4GHz.
If you have 0.21A, I believe it's good for upto 2.6GHz OC. Anything more, you need a better cooler such as Swiftech MCX4000.

HMMM, i got a 2.50 c1 with retail hsf and it sucked, temps as high as 58c in prime95, even at stock vcore, binned it for an aluminium coolermaster and 7k delta and full load now 45-50 depending on ambient.........still need an all copper hsf but considering prometia. The C1 stepping runs a lot hotter in my opinion, or maybe its down to the extra mhz??
I got 2 2.0A's with the rectangular sink... think it is all-alu too. From the looks of it, they seemed very weak. Never actually used any of them, of course! =D
