hey hey
i'm looking to buy a new cheap video card since the ol' xpert 98 8mb ain't cutting it any more.
my price range is very low, $50-70 canadian.
basically i'm looking at:
64mb geforce2mx400 w/tv
64mb radeon 7000
i used to think geforce2 was good until i started reading..
my needs aren't very much, just playing myth3, dungeon siege, the odd ps emulator...
also the system may be running 83mhz agp in the future..
current:
asus p3bf
celeron 366@366 (can do 550 if needed)
arkua 6128 <-- SOOO much better than gorb
320mb sdram
ati xpert98 8mb
thanks :)

I want to get a cheapo card too... I'm not sure what about Rad 7k and MX400, but I did read a review about Rad7500 and MX440, the MX beat the Rad by 5%-7% each benchmark.
Now I have to face a decision what should I get the MX440 or a Radeon 9K cause they're really close in price, and if the Rad 9K is somewhat faster/better I just might get it.

if you want decent gaming performance, stay away from the ati 7000
the 7000 has better image quality since it was made as a workstation card, but lacks speed due to a lack of hardware T&L engine.
the MX is a fair bit quicker and the better buy....

i fpossible, you should wait and save up your money for a better card. If you HAVE to, get the Geforce. I hav eone and was ok, but it doesnt run some of the newer games, i.e.--Battelfield 1942.

if you absolutely HAVE to only spend 50-70 dollars, go with the Radeon 7500 or the G4mx.. but i really recommend you pick up cans or save or something, and pick up an 8500le for 90 bucks shipped from newegg.com, you'll be happy you did.

I have, and am very happy with, my GeF 4 MX440.
Stay away from the MX420 tho'......

hmm.... is ati t&l that charisma engine thing?
also on the ati site there's the 'radeon 64mb sdr'
just radeon with no numbers after it. any ideas what this is?
does gf2mx400 have hardware t&l? if so, what's it comparable to?
the only other card mildly in range is radeon 7500LE 64mb sdr.
how would this compare to gf2?
*yes this sounds real cheap, but even gf4mx costs $100. radeon 7500 ~ $140, radeon 8500LE ~ $200 :(
thanks

if it has no numbers after it, its an original radeon, but thats an SDR version the DDR was ok, but steer clear of that one.
I believe ATI calls their T&L the charisma engine yes...
the gf2mx400 has onboard T&L
