How does quick connect work?

With a Swiftech waterblock, how does quick connectors work? Do you just push the tube in and it stay there? Do you have to screw something? A lot of people tell me it's really secure but i would like to understand how it really works... i mean, what's the mechanism?

push it in.. to release.. push the thingy down.. and pull...

Ok so when i push it, something will grip the wall of the tube... And if i want to change the quick connect later for a 1/2" fitting, i just have to unscrew the quick connect and screw the barb with teflon?

those have alen rench things in them i think, but you would have to drill and tap new holes for bigger barbs, you can buy only the bodies for those blocks, and get the ones with the 1/2 barbs
