View Full Version : My watercooling system is losing water!

I just installed and filled my watercooling system last Sunday. I let it run about half a day to get the air bubbles out and make sure it didn't have any leaks before I fired up the computer.

Tuesday, I had to open the case to switch around some cables and noticed that my water level had gone down (I use a "T" connector with a tube to fill the system and I can monitor my water level in the fill tube.) I thought maybe the system was just working out more air bubbles in the system. Just to make sure, I reached around and checked all of the fittings in the case to make sure I felt no moisture. I couldn't find any leak, so I put a piece of black tape on the fill tube at the water level. I checked it the next day and it had gone down about another half a centimeter.

I'm a little worried. My water system runs pretty hot. I have dual XP1600's @ 1800 MHz and a Geforce 4 waterblock. All of the waterblocks are in parallel and the cooling is great, but the water is pretty warm. The computer runs 24/7 folding proteins.

Could me water be evaporating somehow? It's a closed system, so it doesn't seem possible, but I'm clueless as to what else could be causing this.

Please help.

The water level in my T-line went down just a little every day for almost two weeks before it stabilized. The only thing I could gather was that bubbles were leaving the system, which was good. The distance the water fell every day gradually grew smaller and smaller, and after about 2 weeks the water level stopped falling. Based on what information you have given, I'd say your system is perfectly fine and the air just isn't finished leaving your system yet.

Good luck!!

How perceptive -....

Anyhow.

I've also heard things like the tubing itself could absorb some of the water. But this is normal. I lost quit a bit of water after I got my system up and running.

And if you cant find a water puddle or any leaks, then Iwouldn't worry too much

One other thing is you might want to use some teflon tape on the threads of the barbs on your pump. You may be getting a little bit of air in your system through the return part of your pump. This happened to me when I used to run my Eheim 1048 inline, but once I used the tape the problem went away, but give it a few days to stabilize as stated above because it could just be it hasn't fully blead the air yet.

Hey, join the club. My system loses water slowly, too. I checked everything, almost bought a new pump. Then I just gave up and now I add some water every few weeks. oh well

Ok~ Silicon tubing will "absorb water" BUT do you have a capped t-line? and ALL the bubles out? Probably just some air in the system or an uncapped t :)

This happens to me too sometimes and I can't figure it out. A few months back this was happening to me, it ticked me off because I had to add about 2 cm of water per week. It turned out I didn't do the teflon job good enough on the cap of my T-line.

This time around though I don't know what's happening. I've re-done my teflon job about 3 times and water is still evaporating.

It's just a real pain in the @ss to add water to your setup every week.

Well, I'm glad I'm not the only one with this problem. It seems to have slowed down in the last day or two, so maybe it's just leveling off.
