MOst certainly not. The Alpha will work well for whatever chip you put under it, provided it is of course in socket form

With the standard Intel HSF I was running around 50C at full load, with the Alpha PEP66 I'm around 38C (with a cheap 60mm fan). This thing rocks, and you can modify it for socket-A by mounting the fan-shroud on top instead of sideways.
