OK, check the sig, u see I have a dead hard drive. I wanna open it up and play with its inners. (make the platers a artwork etc ... :D). The problem is the screws are unscrewable, like they've been glued on the casing or something. when I twisted them, they started bending ... :D (I know, I'm too strong for those screws, but still ... :D ;)). Does anybody know how to take these out ?

lol, the screws already lost their heads, so what's a dremel going to catch on to ?

EDIT : not literally lost, just the grip is gone, so there's nothing to hang on to

I'd use a cutting wheel to notch the screew than use a sloted screw driver, works 9 outa 10 times.

ha.. Quantum HDs... what I could say about those things... :)

weird thing is, I got 2 Quantum hard drives, each about 9 years old, and none of them failed on me, not even once. Now htis one, 3 year old, falls dead, just like that, for no reason. hmmmmm ......

Couple years ago we had a lab of some 166s with 3gig Quantums, all the same size and model... During the 3rd year (and the last of that lab) we lost 10 HDs in 2 weeks all of the same problem. And oddly enough, just finished replacing the HD in my buddy's older K6-2 that was one of those Quantum Bigfoot drives.

I just hope that now that Quantum's been bought by Maxtor, their quality will raise ... (unlikely, but ...)

Option 1: Screwdriver....Hammer....Smack:p

Option 2: Side cutting pliers.

Option 3: Drill.

If you want to make some kind of artwork out of the platters, just don’t touch them. Any prints you get on them can never be brought back to the original shine! (i used to have a set of platter hanging in my office)
