They to will go to the dark side of the paper as rumors are going around that the 3.06GHz Pentium may be launched sometime early october.

This is dirty, AMD is already doing the dirty with paper launching (cough XP2400/2600 cough!)

That article looks pretty bogus to me.
The reason 2.8's might be in short supply in the UK would be because there's not much demand. If there was a demand the suppliers would carry stock, but with a tiny demand it wouldn't be economically sound to carry much stock of an expensive item.
In fact one of the biggest UK online company's only order 2.8's on demand.
However in the US online retailers have stock, probably because there is sufficient demand to make stocking the 2.8 worthwhile.

OK, seriously, it's freaky :P And Pointless. They're doing it, AMD is doing it. Whats the point? Paper release some chips, get the ppl dr00ling and confuse your competition. Too bad it works both ways :)

What good is a paper launch? What, theoretically you could make this chip but since you can't sell it for a reasonable price then you're not going to put it into production?

What? What exactly is the point of a paper launch? Hmmm. . . .wish in one hand and s*** in the other, see which one fills up faster. . . . Run any x86 against the paper launched 3.06ghz and see which one runs more software. . . .

So please, someone educate this poor ignorant retch, what is a paper launch and what does it do?

On and BTW, intel has done MANY paper launches before this one. They arent "going over to the darkside" as you put it, since they were already there.

The article is jumping to conclusions for unkown reasons. The chip realease date hasn't come and gone yet to even be considered a paper launch. It's been approx. 6 weeks for a the paper launch of the 2400XP and 2600XP. Now thats a paper launch!
