i work for a major retailer and intel is offering an employee purchase program soon with a 2.4ghzB and an intel board that uses rdram and is bluetooth enabled (thats all the info on the board i have at the moment) it will definately be $200 or less (possible $175)...i was just wondering if this deal would be worth it for me?

right now im running an athlon tbird at 1.4ghz with 768mb of sdram...the rest of my rig is fine except for that...i was thinking of upgrading anyways, but i think by the time i factor in the price of a 512mb stock or rambus memory for that same price i could do a good athlonxp setup (or wait for the barton or hammer)...

without knowing yet exactly what board it is they are offering, what does everyone think of this deal? it would be direct from intel so im sure everything would be retail...itll be announced in the next couple of weeks so until then i have some time to think about this...id just appreciate some opinions from you guys...

thanks

2.4B's are worth $189 on pricewatch right now. That board will likely not be able to overclock. It will definately outperform your current system.
Even with RDRAM it will be fine pricewise...2 sticks of pc800 256mb will run you $175... 512 of pc2700 is about $115 (more if you buy name brand.
As you observed, though, you should be able to get an AMD system for less. The question is... do you use it for things that AMD does best at? Or that Intel does best at?
