Well guys my XP1600+ AGOIA is now running at 1796mhz on STOCK voltage. Unfortunately I have a crappy volcano7 and my load temps are reaching 49C so Im somewhat uneasy cranking up the FSB some more. I'm definetely getting a watercooling setup within a month or two so I can push that baby to the limit.
What do you guys think I should do? OC it some more or be safe and wait for WCing?
Get the proper cooling though the tempatation is about overwhelming.:)

Man I dont think I can resist....
maybe if I open the case up the temp will drop a bit?
At this point id do anything just to see where itll go on stock voltage
Welcome to AMD Land.
I reckon those Epox's uses on-die sensor meaning it reads internally inside the chip, not the in-socket thermistors which you may be used to from Intel land. 55 celius would be the max on those on-die. These temperatures are much more accurate than those thermistors. Meanwhile, you can crank Prime and see if that thing holds together.

Oh Yodums you offend me!
Id never dare post an OC before checking for stabilty ;)
Ive been running prime for a really long time now (cant remember but a couple hours maybe like 6). still no signs of unstability .

I ran it for 7 days straight bro.
;)
PS now you realise that when people say the Celeron Tualatins at whatever is equivilant to an XP that they're wrong because the bandwidth really rocks with the DDR and the 1600+ are crazy clockers now ;)

I first had mine running with a heatsink that was not topline (how's that, Stompah?;)) and at 1.85v hit 1850 with the side panels off: 49c or so, full load and stable:)
I say do what you can to keep temps down and OVERCLOCK!!!!:D

Well I have this big mofo of a fan. Maybe I could take off the side panels and make a big shroud. This fan moves a LOT of air when set on max.
What do you guys think??

lol, that's funny! Almost as funny as when I hooked up my AC duct to my server case with ducting. Had a 120mm fan inside to help pull the cool air in. And the best part is there wasn't a working computer inside! The system was designed to covertly contain beer ;) (I was in a dorm room at the time)

uppin the FSB does not make your cpu any hotter upping the vcore does.
i say crank the fsb as high as it can go and dont change the vcore. you have a great chip!
get a ax7 for $22 at www.bestbyte.net and oc it as high as it can w/ 1.9v!

actually my temps went up a lot from just upping the FSB.
To calculate the heat a CPU produce you use the following formula:
Stock wattage x OCed volt/Stock volt x OCed Mhz/Stock Mhz
Therefore upping the FSB does affect temps.

yeah it's awesome. my 1600 also does 1.8 at default although i use an ax-7. i tried to run it for a day w/o air conditioning and it never gave me a hitch. works great!

ok what is the stock wattage of a 1600+ then? i never heard of that and really have no clue what a watt of heat is i just make sure my cpu stays below 50c :)
Tam,
I have 2 crappy volcano 7's and I love them check my stats.I think you just need some better air flow thru your case.......

1.92 Ghz on my AROIA so far. Gotta love this chip. :)

Well the temptation was too great.
Im now running 175mhz FSB. I havent had time to test stability though. Idle temp is 46C. Thats 1850mhz on stock voltage.
With luck Ill go over 2ghz once I start increasing the vcore....
I might put that big fan on my rig tomorrow. Itd be pretty ghetto

And not a bad idea to boot. Good oc, congratulations and here is to future success. Take Care.:)

Congrats on the overclock. Now burn it in for a few weeks to get a few extra MHz.

Hey stompah, just how good is your chip???
Im hoping to bring this baby to 2ghz with my future watercooling system and a pelt. Right now I think things are looking very promising!
Oh and Silver. I was hugely impressed by your dual TEC setup and I just might copy it. If I remember well the only truly "special" thing to build is the pyramidal cold plate right? Also what were the waterblocks again and just how much did that thing weight in all? Also Im trying to figure out if its actually more expensive than those fridge things.
Emericana: A stock XP1600+ produces 62.8W of heat so right now (at 175mhz FSB) Im producing: 62.8Wx1850/1400=83W.
