Is there any possible way for windows ME to access 512MB of RAM? I know I'm going to weaken and get XP but I keep grasping at straws in every direction, still have 2 weeks before I have to decide on what OS to go with on my new computer. I like 98lite alot, I have it on my friends 98se setup, runs much faster than before, but if I cant run new games on it and take full advantage of my hardware then I wont be a happy camper. Then again I could always just get more compadible hardware. Do I really need 512 for, lets say, Doom III? Is anyone using a 9x version of Windows on their gaming rig and having no problems with driver availability and such?

Why wouldn't 98lite play just as many games as 98bloat does. I also installed all non IE critical OS updates and ran the 'take control' & 'sleek shell swap' and Belarc Advisor still says it's all good.

Just go with 98lite. You can always keep the original 98se GUI shell as 'overweight'. But 'sleek' is much faster.

MElite is a decent OS once the bloat is cut out. 512Mb RAM is plenty and 98se/ME can handle up to that amount without any system file edits. More with the edits.

If you have a copy of a win9x OS, just do the free 98lite download and save yourself a 'C' note and aggravation.

There's workarounds, just do a google on 98 memory limits.

what about ME and hard drives, whats the biggest it will recognize? Is there a workaround for this too? Can I handle RAID?

Google can find most if not all your question's answers.

the problem that i had with me was trying to get it read more than 512 mb ram. i installed an additional stick of 512 mb ram and it would act like it was going to fully boot, but never did... installed xp and worked fine.

I had 786 ram on ME, it is probably a bios or mb issue.
