There are adapters for that, I think you can get them at most comp stores too. I am not familure w/ the matrox card, what screen resolutions can it run in? LCD's have only 1 native resolution and if your video card cannot run at it, the LCD will do a pixil conversion. Unfortunatly more times than not, this conversion makes for bad picture.
Make sure that your dads card can run at the native resolution of the LCD and you should have no problems

I don't think there's anything like that. At least i don't remember seeing it. the best way to connect an LCD to that system is to make sure the LCD had a VGA input. I havent looked at LCDs much, but i would think many would have both connectors or a way to convert the connector. less exensive LCDs probably have only VGA inputs.
I never heard of such an adapter... the price of one would probably outweigh just buying a video card with a DVI port (i.e. GeForce3). I don't see how they would convert that, really. I could be wrong though.

I know I read something about them in max pc, it was an article about the quality loss of LCD's and non-native resolution vid cards. In the article it mentioned the adapters, but as far as ever seeing one, I have not.

Klownin, you're thinking DVI to VGA. He's looking for a VGA to DVI (VGA vid card with no DVI port) The card you're running probably has 1 VGA and 1 DVI port, thus they gave you a DVI to VGA adapter incase you wanted two monitors running VGA.
Doing a quick search in google turned up this (http://www.gefen.com/kvm/product.jsp?prod_id=1310). So I guess they do make them, but that one is very pricey ($300). You might be able to find one cheaper, but.. I don't know. Probably easier just getting him a new video card.
