I have a P4T533 with a Promise controller. I can install 2000 Pro fine on it, but everytime I install XP and it reboots to start Windows for the first time it just reboots. I've tried different drivers but still have the same problem. Any help will be greatly appreciated.:D
I was going to say install the updates and service pack 1 but I guess that would be tricky if you cant get into windows
But maybe if you have a spare hard drive, you could install a copy of windows xp on it then install all the patches and SP1 (but leave your promise controller and drives all connected during the install so that winXP installes and cofigures the drivers for it) then once the install is done see if your machine will boot into windows off the single drive while the raid drive is still in your system, if winXP still doesnt boot then remove the promise controller then see if it will boot again, then make an image of the disk, then plug your controller back in again and try putting that image onto your raid array and see if it will boot up with all the latest windows patches installed :burn:
I am also thinking that if you are going to transfer the image back onto your raid array, then you might have to install windows 2000 onto your single drive so that u can get into windows and run the image software while the controller is still attached. Unless you can do it in DOS, but I havnt tryed so not sure :)

The copy of XP I tried was slipstreamed with SP1. I also tried just installing off the original disk.
doh! ok I have thought of something else it might be. Is it the promise TX2 raid controller that you are using?
i tried this the other night on my msi kt3 ultra 2 and it kept giving me bs about it until i went into advanced bios options and set it to boot from scsi :) may not solve your problem but it worked for me and the customer it was for seems rather happy with it

I beleive this is the Raid controller. (http://www.promise.com/product/oem_ataraid_pdc20276_eng.asp) I tried setting scsi or onboard ata boot and that didnt work. :(
