Boy, this is not my week. After spilling cooling liquid all over my videocard (thank god the computer wasn't on) I think I killed my power supply. Suddenly its started making this whir...click noise (best I can describe it), kinda like something just touching a spinning fan. However upon opening up the PSU the fan isn't touching anything. It's really weird, the sound is comming from under the capacitor  The computer starts running, fans spin, water pumps, then the whir...clicking starts and the computer quits immediately, but the light on the motherboard is still on. Oye, can I fix it or should I just buy a new one? :(

You could probably fix it. But if you don't really know what you're doing you could end up frying a few components if you get it wrong. I'd just spend the cash and get a new PSU.

One thing Crystalmethod did not mention. You could fry yourself!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! If you dont have expereince working with electicity dont try it. Even unplugged a PSU has enough juice in it to kill. For 60 bucks buy a new sparkle.

yah, i got eletrocuted from trying to fix a powersupply - i had it turned on with the case off to check everything was ok, and then i forgot it wa on - (i have just replaced a dead fan with a super quiet one) and put my had on the PCB on the other side of the power plug- i had 230v going though me for about 10seconds! - i stuck to the powersupply.

but the powersupply still works fine and i have only lost feeling in the top of my head.

i agree though, unless you know what yuo are doing, or can find anyone who knows what they are doing to fix it, then get a new one.

Yeah, thats kinda why I wondered if I could fix it. I once accidently touched a screwdriver across something in there. Lucky it as a weak old PSU.
