i've just installed my new Thermalright AX-478 heatsink with a brand new 80 mm fan (smart fan) plus i used artic silver 3.
i use SiSoftware Sandra 2002 to test my cpu temp. but instead of going 10 degrees down, my temp went up by almost 10 degrees.
the stock heatsink is much smaller and came with a smaller fan, and i still managed to keep my 2.0 oced at 2.3 under 50C.
But now it's like 55C at idle, my fan's RPM is in 9000's.
My old fan was running at 4500 RMPS and the temp used to be below 50C.
any1 got any ideas?

1. Post in the right section~ this is extrmeme cooling (peilters/phase change)
2. My AX478 fell apart- most all are getting bad temps right now
3. Welcome to the forum :)

Um did you say smartfan? what is that? If if is one of those temperature controled fans, get rid of it. That could the reason.

Have this moved to the "general cooling" section. You should probably check to see if it is mounted properly, you need hardly any as3, the right amount of pressure - blah blah blah. go to the as3 homepage for instructions if you need em.

There is also a chance you bought the old batch of AX-478. Those had some defects in them that caused many people to get an increase in their temps. You could have also gotten the second batch, which is supposed to be much better. In that case just follow what the people have already said.
