I got this Old system with a MAT****A CR-581 CD ROM, I think it's a 4 speed. I am reformatting the hard drive and the win 98 boot disk can't find it. I managed to download the dos driver from the net.......but now what?
Can someone tell me how to load a dos driver to get this old dino up and running.
thanks
Figarow.
Make yourself a 98 rescue disk. That should load the necessary drivers. One word of caution. I once tried to install 98 from a 4x CD, and it wouldn't perform well enough to do the install.

Thanks for your help guys. I managed to get it going. First I used a 40 speed CD ROM to install windows, then I simply installed the dos driver from windows (dos prompt). It works fine now! Strange thing that it didn't work when I installed the drivers from dos without the O/S? I'm just glad to have it up and running!
Thanks alot for all your help.
Kind regards

I had the same problem with an old comp, before the CD drive died. I needed to use the W95b boot disk in order to get 98SE installed. If I used the 98 boot disk, it would take a couple of boots for the drivers to find the CD rom, and when it did find it, it would always screw up in mid install.
