I was thinkin' about just grabbing a couple 4 pin power connectors and chopin' em down and soldering them to a couple LEDS. Who think this is too much power? :) SHould have avaliable amperare or will it be too much of a dead draw?

yeah that will be too much. just need a resistor in there. it would probably short out the psu also.

Hm aight, I fooorget how do I convert 4 pin 12V into a 7v? that should be fine eh.

ultrabight red leds only run at 1.9v i belive and blue run around 2.5
7 would still be to much inless possibly if u ran all the leds in series i dunno tho.

How do you suggest I wire them then?

I could just drop 3 Blues in series but then I wouldn't have much distance to spread them out. Also I'd worry about amperage then.

you have to use some sort of resistor. diodes are really one way valves, they act like a wire and will short it out. the easiest way to do it is to get a potientometer and adjust until its the brightness you want. then leave it. or if you want measure its resistance with a multimeter, and get a bunch of regular resistors that are the value.

that's no fun.

I just acquired some LEDs rated for 3.3v, which is apparently the normal voltage for power and HD LEDs. Where did I get 3.3 volts from? Glad you asked.

It just so happens that my Antec True430 power supply has the auxiliary AT-shaped power connector, which has two 3.3v lines and a 5v. Not wanting to hack the connector itself (I might get a different motherboard later), I bought a set of AT power supply extension cables, and presto!-- 3.3v. More frugal modders can rip the power connector off of an AT board. ;)

what an intelligent guy. Now... part 2, I bought my LED's, but I left them somewhere, time to figure out where. haha
