View Full Version : ata100 8mb cache or ata133 2mb
what do you'll think?
would an ata 133 2mb have better performance over ata 100 with 8mb cache?
or is someone coming out with a good ata133 8mb cache?
thanks-lee

go with the 8mb cache. i notice no difference between my 133ATA maxtor, and my old drive. that extra 6mb of cache makes a huge difference.

I second that. ATA 133 really has no point, drives cant sustain transfer rates that fast anyway. The 8mb chache make a big difference though.

What about in RAID arrays? Or can RAID not hit 133 transfers? I originally thought 133 was the way to go, but now it's like, 100 will do. Might have to get the 8MB to compensate though... :)

Go with 8mb cache RAID 0 :)
Don't believe ATA133, it has little to no benefits at all, and doesn't come close to the 133 MB/s supposed throughput.
i want a really good setup, just bought my computer and i need a new hd as it didn't come with one so i stole my borther's 2gig.
I don't mind spending ~300 bucks,
what should i do:
raid 0 wd 8mb cache
or
scsi u160?
or
sata
what do you'll think?

wow....SCSI is VERY expensive and is for the most part small in size...think the biggest is like 73GBs or somthing and cost like *EDITED*491** dollars....yuck...
SATA is brand new and is probably very buggy and I wouldn't go with it until it is more wide spread
Go with the RAID 0 and SEs...they are SO fast and are almost as fast as SCSI alone and faster in RAID 0 and alone faster than SATA I believe....these things rule and at 107 each it is a steal....go with them you will not be disapointed...I load widows in 3secs(when it says welcome) with these things...beat that
Spec
i second the 2xSE raid 0

i've read an article about a guy raiding two WD special editions
and he got 40000 on Sisoft sandra
on the other hand....... at http://www.3dgameman.com
he used two maxtor ATA133@raid0.....and got 43000......
i think benchmarks speak for themselves
scsi.....i wouldn't touch it unless i have a decent controller.... ie: adaptec 19160
scsi wouldn't be nice anyway.....i got on myself.....the older seagate 15000rpm one.....ST318452LW
that runs hot....
my mate has the same hard drive......and got a $59 USD controller
and it lost to my IDE hard drive in benchmarks
