Hufffff,

So, I have been working on my WC project forever(4 months research, construction, waiting, etc.), and just when I thought I was done, there is a leak in the pump....

I bought an eheim 1048 from directron which is advertised as:

(A direct quote from directron.com)--->"Works with 3/8" Silicon Hose,"

and since swiftech (I am using swiftech blocks) advertises their 1048 with 3/8" OD fittings... I assumed that directron's was OD also. BIG MISTAKE.

I get the pump, and the barbs looked like a dog had nibbled into them (or a machine), but the damage looked so minor, that I decided to not worry about it... (and how could I worry, after having no computer of my own to use for the past 3 months?)

So as I attempt to put it together, I realize that the barbs are WAY too big... No biggie, I order the correct fittings from Swiftech...

A week later, I am ready to go! I fill and bleed the system with no problems, but as I dry the pump off I notice that there is a leak in the outlet (I am using a fairly complex mix of quick connects and barbs to suit my system; I have a quick connect on the outlet and an eheim barb on the inlet (which has an O ring connected to it)). So after I dry the top off and know for sure it is a leak, I tighten it down with my fingers as tight as possible.

it still leaks

So I notice that that both the barb and quick connect outlet have a hex pattern (like a bolt) and I give it the ol turn with my crescent wrench....

still leaks

So I go to town and get some teflon tape...

And as I unscrew the outlet I begin to cry as I see that the top 15% of the threading inside the pump is stripped, but I want to see if the sucker will seal, so I wrap the tape onto the outlet and screw it in, (it does sit nice and firm and straight and all) and everything looks fairly up, but when I dry it off I find that sure enough, there is a leak in the top of the pump...

SO, F**K ME!!!!
*attempting to pull his own hair out*
*calms himself*

So if anyone has any advice, I would looovvee to hear it (I am going to call directron... and see what they think).

Thanks for listening to my nightmare, and thanks in advance for all the great advice I know I will get...!!!

1. Come to my house and ill fix it :P- or just give me the pump... LOL
2. Go get Yourself some JBWELD from Homedepot and just use that to secure the barb in :) (Liquid Metal- hardens when 2 compounds in tubes combined)
3. Get some silicon and seal the barb

jbweld will bond plastic?? I have absolutely no experience with the stuff... Is it just a fancy epoxy, or does it actually heat up??

Spyder, I will be over in like twenty min., gotta finish my dinner ;)

Well I went and got some JB, but before I decided to use it, I opened the pump up, and looked at the inlet from the inside. Low and behold there were teeth marks where the machine that made the pump ate into the innermost wall (between the impeller housing and the actual motor). Sooooo I have put in an RMA request, and called the Eheim North America center, to try an set this straight... Man I don't know if I can not have my precious up for another month.... AAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHH... Well anyways, thanks again for listening to my gripes!!
