When I try to install it tries to install to C: but I'm pretty sure the C drive on my pc is the hdd cache. F: is the drive I need to install it on but I dont see any way to do it. Is there a way I can swap drive letters or tell xp wich is my OS drive?
You'd think the SP1 installer would detect the location of your Windows files and install them to the appropriate drive...

If it was'nt a problem I wouldnt have asked. When I try to install it it tries to install to C: drive and informs me I dont have enough space....no kidding I dont have enough space its an 8 meg cache partition. The dumb microsoft auto installer has no user defined options that I can see, it just assumes everyone has their OS on the C: drive. Either that or something has gone retarded.

Try renaming c:\ to another drive letter and see what it does.
Try opening up the sp1 package with winzip and see if there's an installation ini file in there. If so, maybe you can edit it to go to your OS partition instead of C:\

Windows wont let you rename the system drive...Well you
can rename it but you can't change the drive letter origionally
assigned.
IF F:\ is your system drive than it should install there. You may
have to hack the registry to fix what seems like a corruption.
This crap is all thru the registry so you can't really do more than
trivial fixes.
HD's are cheap....time for an upgrade?
You can try downloading the Administrative Or Network Deployment Setup of SP1. That should allow you to install to whatever location you want.
Check the MS KB about this, as I don't have much detail on how to perform such an action.

That might help a little...
If you don't value your data and have some spare time and none of the other suggestions work out, you could repartition your drive and do a clean install.

That is true. Clean istalls don't take that long. They are actually
pretty fast if you have enough disk space and at least 256 MB
of RAM.
