View Full Version : 34C when idle (ACPI software cooled) but 49C under load. Why?

I own a cc0 Celeron 800 & Abit BE6-II. I use a GlobalWin FKP32 and I run at 1053 (8x131,5) @ 1,95V. While running 3DMark or Prime95 or any other similar program I get 49C. System Temp : 31C. From 34C when idle to 49C while running most of the games and benchmarks and burn tests, is a very big margin. Not to mention the 57C while running (for 1 hour) the most efficient and powerful burn test: CPUBurn. All the other tests : Prime95, 3DMark, 3D Winbench peak my CPU's temp at 49C. CPUBurn really stresses the CPU, the rest is crap.

1). Is there something wrong with my cooling? I have placed thermal grease. Is there any way to improve my temps? Maybe by applying other grease or by lapping the heatsink?
2.) Does the burn-in process really exist? If I try now, after 20 days of use at that speed, could I lower the voltage without causing instability?

The temps were viewed using MotherBoard Monitor 5.06.

I would try some Arctic Silver themal compund it is pretty well accepted that it is the best. Lapping your heat sink if done right is a good thing if done wrong will cause more harm than good. There are a lot of conflicting view points on burn in. In my experience it does work I would try lowering the voltage if it is not stable you can always raise it again. Voltage = heat there is no getting around that.

Should I try a better/newer heatsink? The heatsink is very slightly hot on touch even when MBM 5 shows 57C with CPUBurn. Am I going to see bigger difference by using Arctic Silver or by bying CAK38? What improvement should I expect by using them?
