As many of you should know i have asked a lot of questions on these boards about what to get etc. And now i finaly got it! And it results in yet another question :D. I put my machine together, and it boots up- so i enter bios and i see its set at xp1500. Seeing that I have a xp1600 I changed that. Then i save and it starts to check for drives etc. Next thing I know the monitor isnt detecting a PC lol. I have tried a new monitor, and a new video card so its not those. My system is:
xp1600
abit kx7-333r
1gig (2x-512) pc3200 cas 2 ram (corsair xms)
MSI Ge4 ti4200 128mb
80gig "special edition" WD 8mb cache HDD
antec true550 PSU
if i missed anything important please tell me. Does anyone have any ideas of what I can try? I have spent a couple hours going through looking for jumpers on the board and looking over and over in the manual heh. Thanks in advance for replies!

I wouldn't have changed anything from the auto-detection of your board without a re-boot/BIOS upgrade. What exactly did you change?
Hopefully, you didn't make any severe changes...

i just changed it from xp1500+ to xp 1600+ so it had the correct multiplier.

how do I do that on a kx7-333r? Also, I forgot to add- the fans are turning and the LED's on the mobo are on, but the LEDs on the front case panel arent goin on.
edit: typos

Last time I saw a system do this:
"the fans are turning and the LED's on the mobo are on, but the LEDs on the front case panel arent goin on."
the CPU was fried.
You may have "adjusted" your cpu into smoke...maybe a BIOS reset will help; but I doubt that.:eh?:

I would try to reset the bios before rmaing the board.

how do I reset the bios with a kx7-333r? I dunno why the cpu would have died. I had a slk-800 and vantec tornado on it the hole time.

DONT RMA!
the kx7-333 makes you RESET CMOS WHENEVER you do something you were not supposed to do on the board.
whenever you first boot up you always are supposed to do load optimised defaults which you did not do. that changes it from running at 100mhz bus to 133. likely all of your components were out of whack cause you didnt.
there is a yellow jumper on your board you need to set. go read about it in the manual. it is called clear cmos.
if you oc w/ that board a lot get used to learning how to use the jumper (real simple lol) cause you will be usin it a lot!

i already tried that. not sure if I did it right, but nothing different happened. I turn the comp off. put the jumper in clear cmos position. turn PC on. put jumper back in Normal. PC went on, noithing different. Did i do it right?

um, you're suppose to put the jumper on WHILE the pc is OFF, not ON....
Emericana

ya you did it wrong.
put the jumper in clear cmos position
wait 30 seconds while pc is OFF
put it back to normal position
turn on pc
i do not know the results of what will happen if you turn your pc on whith jumper in clear cmos position. if what i just wrote (how to correctly clear cmos) does not work, than you may have destroyed your mobo and or bios by doing it the wrong way.

while the pc is off.... is the psu still on? so the orange light on the mobo is on? Or everything completely off. If so, do i turn it on, then put it back to normal, or turn it off, put it in clear, then put it in normal, then turn it back on. thanks for any help!
Emericana

to be on the safe side i do it while the psu and everything is 100% completly off (no orange light).
w/ the thing 100% off put it to clear for 30 seconds. then move it to normal. then turn on pc. should work

ok thank you sir, if it doesnt help should I rma it or what?
Emericana

ya i say rma but i bet it will work
for future on all boards always make sure you do load optimised defaults first

well i took the mobo off, and then the cpu and the cpu is burnt!!! I guess thats what the problem was, so im not gonna rma the board quite yet. I just need to get my hands on a new xp 1600 lol. Anyone know why it would have burned. It was never used. I has as3 in there. maybe it was too thick. So next time im gonna use evn less i guess. Thats really wierd though..... all this mess makes me want a dell (j/k). Did any of you have so much trouble when you were newbs? wanna know if im just a complete idiot or just taking the beginner road. hehe thanks for the info tho guys.

Well as you have an SLK800 I would suggest that it wasnt mounted properly especialy if you have fried the chip!
o0OBruceLeeO0o

how could i not mount it properly?
edit: also, there are burn marks on the slk-800 as well.

ehh it was extremely loud . You were right. I put the slk-800 on wrong i think. I think only 2 of the pads were on the chip!!! Thanks! There arent any burn marks on the mobo, would it be safe for me to put another cpu in there?
